About the Event
Two distinct dreamers sharing the same vision, rushing to understand the world and humanity...
Two great authors on a ferry cutting through the dark of night…
Two titan figures of Turkish literature, Sait Faik Abasıyanık and Orhan Kemal, cross paths on an enchanting night that begins in the garden of Marmara Clinic and reaches the streets of Burgazada! “Düş Payı” is a fairy-tale-like, melancholic, and festive nocturnal voyage that bears witness to two master writers chasing a dream across the boundaries of reality and fiction, theatre and cinema, the past and the present.
“I feel inside me the dread that fills the heart of a John Dory fish. The fear of death…”
While Sait Faik is undergoing treatment at the Marmara Clinic, someone knocks on his door one night. It is Orhan Kemal. In his hands lies the draft of his new screenplay, which he holds onto with great hope after so many scripts he has penned. With protagonists inspired by Orhan Kemal's people and supporting characters crafted from Sait Faik’s stories, all this screenplay needs to come to life is Sait’s signature. But Sait Faik sets a different condition: first, they must escape this hospital together!
“In the hush of twilight, on the Burgazada ferry, Sait Bey is plagued by cirrhosis, yet we are on the road to Aleksandra.”
As the two friends step into the Istanbul night and set off towards Burgazada, reality and fiction begin to blend. Sait Faik’s island converges with Orhan Kemal’s everyday folks. Throughout this journey, the two prominent writers sometimes share the same dream, sometimes clash in anger, and sometimes ruthlessly critique each other’s worldview. Because their friendship is not flawless; it is real. Full of laughter as much as arguments, solidarity as much as heartaches.
“What kind of world, you ask? A world without injustice!”
And the love between Semih and Işık, who are desperately trying to escape their past lives, weaves into this uniquely magical night; put to the test by courage, fear, conscience, and freedom.
“Everything begins with loving a person. But here, everything ends with loving a person.”
While bringing literature and cinema, reality and fiction, past and present onto the same stage, “Düş Payı” tells far more than just the lives of two great authors:
People trying to understand one another.
Those who never give up on love.
Those chasing their freedom.
And those who dare to dream of a better world.
Because beneath all these stories lies the very same question:
“Should humanity change, or the world?”
The corridors of literary history, which Tiyatro Hayali began exploring with the play “Meçhul Paşa”, now open up to an imaginary encounter between Sait Faik and Orhan Kemal. Greeting its audience with mischievous wit, “Düş Payı” invites you right into the heart of the hopeful dreams spun by literature, cinema, and human nature. You are warmly invited to witness that tender “dream” shared by all of us, left behind amid the clatter of typewriters and the deep love for their homeland by two grand masters.
“I fear no one; this is my bitter chocolate!”
