About the Event
In her painting exhibition titled “Dönebilir(iz) miyiz(?)”, Çiler Belen focuses on the traditional wooden arbors (çardaks), a century-old living culture of the Mediterranean coast. Drawing inspiration from these coastal shelters that she began documenting in the 1990s and which were demolished in 2002 in the name of tourism, the artist reflects on that simple life intertwined with nature and asks how far we have drifted from it today: Can we return to nature?
The exhibition features wooden arbors with verandas, colorful quilts draped over railings, and scenes of coastal life.
