Reşat Nuri Güntekin’s novel Çalıkuşu tells the story of Feride (Çalıkuşu)—a young, free-spirited girl with a child's heart—who discovers on her wedding day that she has been betrayed by her fiancé, flees from Istanbul to Anatolia, and strives to build her own life by teaching for the sake of her ideals, tracing her growth, maturation, and journey to reunite with her great love.
